European Agriculture: "Between sustainability and food security"

The research centre ECO-SOS, in collaboration with the Departament d'Economia and the Centre de Documentació Europea, organizes a debate entitled European Agriculture: "Between sustainability and food security" The event will take place on May 7th at 1:00 p.m. in the Sala de Graus (Faculty of Economics and Business). The speakers will be Victòria Soldevila (ECO-SOS), Tomás García Azcárate (CSIC), and Lourdes Viladomiu (UAB). The debate will offer a space for reflection on the current challenges facing European agriculture, focusing on agricultural policy, environmental sustainability, and food sovereignty in an evolving European context.
VICTÒRIA SOLDEVILA LAFON
PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona. She is an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the Rovira i Virgili University and a researcher at the Centre for Research in Economics and Sustainability. Her research interests include agricultural economics, rural development and post-socialist economies. She received the Llovet i Monrós Prize in Agricultural Studies for her publication "The Impacts of the Nitrates Directive on the Pork Sector in Catalonia".

TOMÁS GARCÍA AZCÁRATE
Doctor of agricultural engineering and agricultural economist specialized in the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy). He has been an official of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission and vice-director of the Institute of Economy, Geography and Demography of the CSIC (Higher Council for Scientific Research). He is a researcher at the CSIC, an associate researcher at the Center for Studies and Research for the Management of Agricultural and Environmental Risks of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a member of the French Academy of Agriculture and a member of the Italian Academy Accademia dei Georgofili.

LOURDES VILADOMIU CANELA
Doctor of Economics from the UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona). She is an honorary professor in the Department of Applied Economics of the UAB and has extensive experience in research in rural development and agri-food. She has carried out evaluations and policy advice for the European Commission, the Spanish government, the Generalitat de Catalunya and several NGOs. She is a member of the board of directors of the Catalan Institute for Agricultural Studies.

The conference is held this week to commemorate that 09/05 is Europe Day.
